So thanks to the hard work of Matty Lee this season's tour opened up at 11am at West Hove Golf Club for the inaugural Rovers Open Golf Championship. Eleven brave souls teed off on a rather warm July day on a rather hilly eighteen holes on the South Downs. There were unanswered calls for buggies which with hindsight might have been a good idea, but we soldiered on regardless.

The abilities on show varied from Charlie playing off scratch, to I don't know how high the banditry went, but with 'prizes' for the best Stableford round, nearest the pin and longest drive, there was no shortage of competitiveness out there. At the end of the day Ethan managed to take the Open Trophy, Charlie nearest the pin by default as he was the only one to stop his ball on the green, and Jamie C robbed Rocco of the longest drive at the death. A great day out before we made sure the pubs of Shoreham were still going!










And so to the cricket, well we should have played the Old Cranleighans on the Wednesday but unfortunately they couldn't cobble together a side, a disappointment for the thirteen we had available. So the President hit Brighton on a glorious day for people watching before heading back to Shoreham to make sure Tuesday night wasn't a dream!

Thursday saw the arrival of Brighton Brunswick, a brilliant 40 over match we lost by just three runs, you can read the report here. So once we'd got over the disappointment we headed to the Bridge in Shoreham, having already reserved a table at the Crown & Anchor for the France Morocco World Cup QF, and requested, successfully I might add, that the Indian Cottage stay open for a curry after.

The evening didn't fail to entertain, the beers flowed, Ethan went for a swim in the Adur in front of a packed pub to everyone's delight, the footie wasn't too bad then the curry topped it all off magnificently. 14 Rovers stormed the premises around 11pm, thanks to the owner, but he kind of expects us every year now, and got stuck in.

As is the norm these days, a small initiation ensued with the two Bs, Barney and Ben being required to tuck into a bowl of Phall sauce, rumour has it that Ben went back for more! A great evening had by all.













So once everyone had got over the night before we assembled at HQ again to face the Sussex Martlets on another belter of a day on the coast, we lost again but it was another good match with Gouldy's 120 on 'debut' the highlight, more here.


























 
So, apart from emptying the esky, there was just one job left to do, award the Swordfish Trophy. This year's recipient was Ben, and you can read why here, well done mate.
